Magnus Henry Zimmerman was going to grow up and save the world. He knew, instinctually that it would be an impossible task. The virus that had corrupted the world and left only a few hundred survivors could not be cured but he knew that if he had the chance he could do it. He wasn’t named after both Helen Magnus and Henry Foss for nothing.

Even at the age of three he understood everything that was going on around him. He understood that when his father went away on missions that there was a high probability he wouldn’t come back. He always ran the numbers, and the longer his father was gone the worse it looked for him.

Magnus pulled on a heavy coat and ventured out of his living quarters, one of the only heated rooms in the entire Arctic Sanctuary and traversed the hallways to where his mother would be in the labs. She was going to give him a sibling. She didn’t know it yet but he could tell because the genetic differences that made him an Abnormal were singing it. His sibling would help him save the world, he didn’t know how he knew but he did.

Nature was righting a wrong. The human race was evolving and he was the start of that change. One day he would discover why Destiny had chosen him. Neither of his parents were Abnormal nor did they know of any history of Abnormals in their blood line. One day he would discover exactly what it was that made him an Abnormal, and an abnormal one at that.

Magnus Henry Zimmerman was going to save the world. He was going to do it for the Arctic Sanctuary but more importantly he was going to do it for his father. He was going to be like his father and he was going to make him proud.

. . . . . .

“Magnus,” William said in awe, “we did it.”

Magnus chuckled, smiling at his little brother, “Yes we did.”

They were standing on the roof of the Old City Sanctuary, looking out at the destruction the virus had caused. The Sanctuary had held all they needed to make a difference, it had just taken them sixteen years to get it.

“Don’t celebrate now kids, there’s still a lot more that needs to be done.”

They turned around to see their greatest ally, Nikola Tesla. He’d taught them everything about science and technology, taught them how to fight and how to shoot. He protected them and was like a father to them, though he didn’t see it that way.

“Yeah, but Uncle Niko we can actually rebuild the world now,” Magnus protested.

They could do a lot now, not just save the world. Saving the world was one thing but getting it back into order would be another thing entirely.

. . . . .

Every body littering the Sanctuary was decayed and only piles of bones but that didn’t stop Magnus from knowing the second he laid eyes on his father’s body. He could barely remember his father but he knew it was him. He could see the remnants of his physical life, half way between being corrupted by the virus.

Nikola didn’t ask him what was wrong when he curled up beside him that night and wouldn’t let him go. He said nothing when Magnus started to cry, said nothing when William joined them worried out of his mind let Magnus deal with is grief on his own. Nikola knew what was troubling the older Zimmerman. Though both boys had grown up knowing their father was no longer alive they had never been faced with the physical evidence.

Magnus didn’t want William to know and Nikola didn’t have the heart to hurt the boys anymore than they already were, even if it was something they both deserved to know.

It 'twas good Kero, even though I didn't understand it xD
(mind you I've seen only ONE episode so I'm a horrible one to read this)

I don't know Sanctuary at all - I think I've only ever seen *part* of one episode but, that paragraph, when the older brother didn't want his younger brother to know what he'd seen?

That's both sad and hugely big!brotherly.
