“You look cozy.”

Lorne didn’t think that sitting in a crows nest should ever be considered cozy, given that it was the most unprotected area on the ship but he figured Sheppard was talking about the way he was cocooned in four of the warmest blankets from their cabin.

“You look drunk,” he replied.

If he were any other man on their crew, Lorne would be worried about Sheppard losing his grip or simply forgetting that he had to hold onto the damn ropes and falling to his death. But Lorne had seen Sheppard fly Atlantis through raging thunderclouds after participating in a particularly vicious Satedan drinking game with Ronon and he knew that, for a drunk man, Sheppard could be surprisingly well coordinated.

He was still scared shitless over the possibility of Sheppard falling.

He grabbed Sheppard by the shirt and hauled him up the rest of the way and into the crows nest.

“Yo ho,” Sheppard laughed, a wide, spacey smile on his face. “Hey, do you have any rum up here?”

Yeah, because it was such a great idea to be drinking in the crows nest, Lorne thought. He didn’t say it though, just integrated Sheppard into his cocoon and told him not to be an idiot.

Sheppard wrapped his arms around Lorne and rested his head on his shoulder, “I was wondering...”

Lorne faintly heard the uproar of the crew on the lower decks grow louder for a brief moment. Then he heard Chuck’s voice, quiet but growing as he searched for his elusive Captain.

Lorne leaned forward and pressed his face to the rope mesh, hailing the only crew member who had more responsibility than anyone else excluding Lorne himself.

Lorne still couldn’t figure out why Chuck had joined their crew. Chuck had a solid background, a good education and everything had been going good for him. Much like Lorne, he could have been anything he wanted. But Lorne had chosen this life, the life of a pirate because of Sheppard and all the fuzzy feelings they never talked about that went hand in hand with them. Chuck was solid and not at all broken like the rest of them, his reasoning still lost on Lorne.

“Sir?” Oh yeah, and Chuck was ridiculously polite too.

“The Captain’s up here with me kid,” Lorne yelled down at him. “Go back below deck and have some fun.”

“And get laid!” Sheppard chimed in gleefully.

Lorne knew that Chuck had gone red at Sheppard’s comment despite his ducked head and despite the fact that he could hardly see anything. He watched Chuck hurry back to the stairs before settling in again, Sheppard wrapped around him comfortably.

“I have a question,” Sheppard said, with a small giggle, lips ghosting over his neck.

“Uh huh,” Lorne replied, frowning because Sheppard plus alcohol was always unpredictable in terms of what he was thinking. Some of Sheppard’s most idiotic plans were made while they were drinking.

Sheppard giggled again, “Can I plunder your treasure?”

Lorne blinked once, then blinked again because he wasn't sure he heard that right. He couldn’t have. Then Sheppard burst out laughing.

“Fucker,” Lorne swatted him. “Go to sleep you dumbass.”

Sheppard was still chuckling quietly to himself as he pulled them down, curling them around the center of the crows nest and almost immediately falling asleep. Lorne was awake a little while longer, but eventually the gentle rocking of the Atlantis as it, at the moment, aimlessly flew through the sky lulled him to sleep.
